Traveller Review: New Year Vacation with My Sexy Fiance
“New Year Vacation with My Sexy Fiance” (Tulip Inn Accra Hotel)
It's really hard to write this review because I have no clue where to begin. I have been looking for a Hotel not too overpriced in Accra to accommodate me and my partner for so many reasons. When I came across this beautiful Travel Xpress International now Tulip Inn,this lovely Hotel is just a walking distance from the Accra Mall, one of the first modern shopping center in Ghana. When I first I told my partner about this is the place for us and she did not hesitate to confirm the booking.
I have already informed the Hotel about our early arrival and the manager on duty made arrangement for the driver to collect us at the airport as early as 06:00 am. Let me kindly say big thanks to Michael the driver and Rita (Front Desk Manager) for making the start of vacation an excellent one...
Early Arrival
I bet many of you have experienced night flight and arriving early morning. And on 31st December 2012 ? You can imagine how busy the capital Accra is.We were kinda relieved to meet the hotel driver at the airport with our names on the A4 sheet paper.
Hotel Staff.
Staff at Hotel were awesome including the Police Officer on duty .Our few problem with Hotel is the breakfast is just too basic compare to Holiday Inn and few other Hotels. The pool is very small and not many of the guest use the pool because of the condition . Please keep it clean even if no one is using it...
Bed.
We stayed in the Junior Suite which is really massive with massive everything includes fridge, bed and sofa. I can remember getting busy all the time with my partner at night still more space Lol.
Food.
Food menu at the restaurant is wonderful 24hrs service, my partner was overwhelme about meal . I can say personally,I really enjoy the pork chop with the fries. Even though I am not really fan of continental dishes but I really enjoy the pork chop +++.
Room Service.
Room service is good just few touches need to be done. I will suggest they have hair dryers in every room or have the dryers available 24hrs at the front desk. Apart from that I have no problem with the hotel. Its perfect for short or long stay....
I will strongly recommend this hotel for anyone travelling to Ghana alone, partner or family. Rate is a bargain, taxi's to Kotoka International Airport wont cost you more than $8.
The reception will do anything thing to make your stay a memorable one. They can get you taxi if you are unable to get one at after hours.
Thank you Rita,Michael and each and everyone for making our stay memorable one.

Travelling To Ghana? Vaccination Certificate Required!!!
Are you planning to travel to Ghana anytime soon?Well, here are few things you need to know about the required vaccinations.
There are number of recommended vaccinations when traveling to Ghana, your GP or pharmacist will be able to advise you. You are required to be vaccinated against Yellow Fever and you will be asked to show your yellow card when entering Ghana.
All areas in Ghana are at risk of malaria and it is advisable to take anti malaria drugs during your visit. Asda pharmacy will administer these following a consultation with you. I take Malarone and have never suffered any side effects, a generic version of Malarone is available at Asda pharmacy at £1 per tablet, you will need to take one the day before you arrive, each day you are there and for 7 days when you return home.
It is also advisable to use insect repelant sprays and to wear long trousers and long sleeved tops, however be prepared for the heat .... It is hot!

No More Virgin Flights To Accra From Heathrow
I was trying to sort out Christmas flights to Ghana today, and as I had flown with them a number of times in the past I contacted Virgin as their prices are normally competitive, especially in line with the high level of Customer Service, imagine my surprise when I was told "Virgin will stop flying to Ghana on the 23rd September"....this is a real blow not only to me but to many others. I have taken the Heathrow to Accra flight on a number of occasions and each time the flight has been full. This is a real shame!
The report below which I have found from Virgin, blames high fuel prices in Ghana and lack of availability of slots at Heathrow on their decision.
Let's hope this wont be the end of Virgin flights to Ghana and that they will start them again soon!

For anyone who has been left wondering who to fly with following this decision, can I please recommend KLM. Although you have to do a transit stop in Amsterdam, KLM are a quality airline, you can pre-book seats and the food is fantastic**
**these are my personal opinions based on my personal experiences
Flights between Heathrow and Accra are being suspended by Virgin Atlantic partly due to high fuel costs in Ghana.
The airline’s last flight on the route will depart Accra for London on September 23.
Exceptionally high fuel costs in Ghana, a challenging wider economic environment and an inability to operate morning arrivals from Accra due to scarcity of slots at Heathrow, have all contributed to the decision to withdraw the service.
Flights to Ghana were launched three years ago to compete with British Airways on the Accra route.
Virgin Atlantic airline planning director Edmond Rose said: "We have had to take the difficult decision to suspend our services between London and Accra.
"We were excited to enter the market and have been pleased to be part of the growth and development taking place in the country.
"However, we have been severely impacted by the price of fuel in Ghana which has resulted in us being forced to tanker fuel into Accra from the UK.
"Scarcity of slots at London Heathrow has meant that we have been unable to offer morning arrivals into London, which makes us a less attractive option for the business traveller. This has also limited our ability to offer connections onto our wider transatlantic network.
"These are still challenging times for the airline industry and we have to deploy our aircraft to routes with the right level of demand to be financially viable.

Holiday Inn Accra Airport ( TRAVELER REVIEW )
I have to say a Gargantuan thanks to the staffs for the beautiful smily face staff at the Holiday Inn Accra Airport.
Breakfast was awesome, you can Imagine anything you want for breakfast and you will get it.
La Cabana the restaurant at the pool side is just Exotic, specially at night. I spent some special moment with my partner in the pool and also on Friday night "LIVE BAND".
The breakfast in the room was more than I expected.Thank you for wonderful service you render to you guest.
The air condition detected fault in the morning and we reported to one of the Managers on the duty in the morning before we return back to our room everything was just perfect.
Anyone who's coming to Ghana with his/her partner should try Holiday Inn Accra. The price is a lil high but is worth the service.
I hope to be back soon with my partner
